That cover is still seriously creepy. Wherever I see it, I sit and look and wait for the screaming faces to get smaller and smaller and fade into black.
An animated cover…I wonder if that’s possible?
As a book trailer? On youtube? That would be much fun. or much nightmare. Or both.
I was thinking the actual book. Maybe in the future?
it’s technically posible now. You know those layered pictures that kids’ books had in the 60s? You could twist and turn the cover and it would move from all dark to all screaming.
They have a lot of collector’s cards doing the same thing…
That’s what we need. A grant to make collectors’ cards for the covers of Australian spec fic novels. I have no idea what one would do with mine, but your new one would be the leading horror card, “With extra scream.” Think of Worldcon people collecting and trading and seeking a full set…
How good would that be? Let’s put the word out and see what happens!
Can I just pop up and say the word “lenticular”? That’s the technique they used, and indeed still do.
Finding out a couple of years ago that one of the world experts in this are based in Belper, Derbyshire, just a few miles from Angry Robot’s Nottingham HQ, I enquired after prices. It starts to make sense at around 120,000 copies.
So I’m game. Just get that promotional stuff cranked to max and you can have one!
Oooh, goody! You could do an Angry Robot set! And “Lenticular” is a good name for a novel…
